AS a consumer of soy as a milk substitute, I decided to try the ‘Lasco’ soy food drink available in packaged form.
I chose not to read the ingredients as I usually do, as I thought that there would be nothing deleterious in any soy product. However, to my chagrin on another occasion I was reading the ingredients and saw that there was the ingredient ‘FD’ and ‘C red 3’ which medical experts and nutritionist have determined can cause hyper activity, behavioural problems and cancer. The ingredients also listed sulfur dioxide, which is ‘a colourless, extremely irritating gas or liquid, S02, used in many industrial processes, especially the manufacture of sulfuric acid.”
It is a pity that this product is manufactured in a sister territory in the Caribbean, Jamaica.
The USA with their Food and Drug Administration and other leading countries, would never let such a product enter the hands of the bodies of their citizens.
This product should not have been passed unnoticed by our Food and Health authorities or the Bureau of Standards. Some member of those responsible for the health and well being of our populace, as it pertains to food being sold in the marketplace, must be reading this article. If it is claimed to be missed, I will follow up with a call to someone responsible for ensuring that only food products that are safe and of good quality are being sold.
