Murdered policemen – Bodies flown to city, Letlow shot, Aaron burnt, spent shells recovered …Letlow was alleged associate of Ricardo Rodrigues

YESTERDAY the Guyana Police Force, in a statement, said that suspected gunshot wounds were observed on the body of 27- year- old constable Marlon Letlow. The service weapon, a Carbine that was uplifted by Constable Letlow, was recovered along with eight rounds and eight spent shells.

The police release stated that Constable Aaron’s body was discovered a short distance from a burning tree stump. His body appeared to be partly burnt. The release added that the service .38 revolver which was uplifted by Aaron was missing. However the lone ATV that they used to conduct their patrols was recovered.
There are suggestions there may have been a confrontation between the lawmen and those responsible for their death. Yesterday afternoon the bodies of the two policemen were flown to the city and currently are at the Lyken’s Funeral Parlor and are expected to undergo post-mortems sometime today.

The family members of the policemen who were found murdered on Wednesday at Paramakatoi are seeking answers as they are of the view that something seems strange about the circumstances surrounding the death of the men.
The relatives of Letlow were not willing to say much about the developments surrounding the discovery of their relative’s body along with that of another policeman. Yesterday too they were reluctant to divulge any more information and the outcome of meetings they had with the police to the media. The man’s aunt accused the media of inserting information that was not given by the relatives.
Meanwhile, following the discoveries of the bodies and the newspaper reports which were accompanied with photos of the men surprised many within the police force. One member of the Force told this publication that the last thing they knew was that Letlow was interdicted from duty following the fingering, charging and court appearances of the officer in the robbery and shooting to death of two miners at a hotel in Bartica in 2010.
The reaction came after members of the Force expressed ignorance that Letlow, who was interdicted from duty in 2010, was still serving the Guyana Police Force. There were suggestions that the man, who has relatives in the force, may have assisted him to get back into the Force and he was sent to the hinterland location to keep a low profile.

However, that suggestion began to hold less water after the Guyana Police Force issued a press release which in part indicated that following the interdiction of Letlow, he was reinstated into the Force on August 06, 2012 after his “accessory after the fact” charge was withdrawn and a charge of “receiving stolen property” instituted.
Yesterday when this publication visited the home of Ledon Aaron, his family remained in shock over the incident and his mother could not overcome her grief. During our visit yesterday the Force’s Welfare Department was present at the home of the family. Aaron’s siblings quizzed the police about the personal belongs of their relative and if and when those will be handed over to them.

The dead policeman’s mother questioned why the police took so long to send anyone to meet with them and why the confirmation by the Force of the men’s death took them almost 24 hrs, when it was public knowledge that the bodies of the men were discovered.
One rank who spoke with the Guyana Chronicle explained that interior locations are not always in contact with each other and with members at Eve Leary in Georgetown.

By yesterday, when the news of the men’s death had become public knowledge, many persons were heard commenting on how careless the police were in not realizing that their colleagues who were in the field were unreachable for an unusual period of time.
Yesterday morning the mother of Aaron said that her son was tortured before he died. She said that she was informed that her son was tied to a tree and shot with a shotgun before being set alight. She said that her son managed to set himself free and was able to walk a short distance before collapsing. There was also information surfacing that Aaron might have been shot after he attempted to flee from the area where they were probably ambushed.
The family members of Ledon Aaron are now blaming the death of the young man at the feet of his now dead colleague, Marlon Letlow, who, it is clear, had a very checkered past.

Yesterday the cousin of Ledon said that it was natural that if Ledon saw his college being attacked that he would go to his rescue.
The relative said that it was because of that loyalty that he lost his life. The young lady, who did not mention her name, said that her cousin was killed because the attackers, who clearly were targeting Letlow, feared that Aaron would report the matter.
The Guyana Chronicle was reliably informed that Constable Marlon Letlow was a close associate of the recently executed suspected member of the drug underworld, Ricardo Rodriguez.
It was related to this publication that the now dead policeman Marlon Letlow would usually lime and hangout with Ricardo and other friends at popular spots, but these would most time be in the interior. The Chronicle was also informed that Letlow’s association became clear during the period he was interdicted from police duty following the robbery and murder of two miners in Bartica in 2010, and for which he was accused of aiding and abetting.
Yesterday, the source who spoke with this publication and who was familiar with Letlow and at least two other persons from the group, said that it was not clear if Letlow was still associating with Rodrigues and the others after he was reinstated in the Guyana Police Force.
