GFF League winners receive awards

THE top finishers and performers of the recently concluded Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Super League and Women’s Inter-Association tournaments were yesterday rewarded in a simple ceremony on the lawns of the Federation.
Chaired by Kirk Douglas in the presence of acting president of the GFF, Franklin Wilson, and General Secretary Noel Adonis, the ceremony was attended by just a few representatives of the clubs.
In the Super League, Alpha United walked away with $1M and the championship trophy after going undefeated in nine games (8 wins, 1 draw). They finished the competition with a whopping 25 points and scored 32 goals in their allotted games.
Coming in second were BK International Western Tigers who received $500 000 and the runners-up trophy. Tigers finished with 19 points for their nine games which included six wins, one draw and two losses.
Amelia’s Ward copped the third place trophy and the $300 000 cash prize coming in closely behind Western Tigers with 18 points from nine games (6 wins, 3 losses). The final top spot went to Rosignol United who carted off $200 000. Rosignol won five games, drew one and lost three to end with 16 points.
In the individual awards category, Amelia’s Ward claimed the Fair Play Award, Wayne Dover was adjudged the Best Coach, the Most Valuable Player (MVP) went to Anthony Abrams. Abrams shared the Highest Goal Scorer award with Delroy Fraser after both players finished with ten goals.
Richard Reynolds was awarded with a goal-keeping outfit after being adjudged the Best Goalkeeper.
The Women’s Inter-Association was won by Georgetown who carted off $250 000 ahead of the Rupununi team who claimed the first runners-up prize of $150 000. Coming in third were the Bartica team who won $100 000.
The Fair Play Award was won by Georgetown; the MVP was won by Coletta Dublin, the Highest Goal Scorer was Sonia Griffith and the Best Goalkeeper was claimed by Ruth George.
