Dangerous driving allegedly causes two-vehicle smash-up on Sheriff Street

AN eyewitness to a two-vehicle smash up on Sheriff Street, Georgetown last Sunday alleges that the accident was caused by dangerous driving.
According to the eyewitness, at approximately 09:00 hs that day, Toyota motor car # PPP 4926 was attempting to access Sheriff Street to go in a southerly direction when it collided with Toyota Carina # PJJ 5798 which was coming from the opposite direction.
Kingston Murray, driver of PPP 4926, spoke with this newspaper, claiming that he turned out of the alley after making sure that the road was clear, when out of nowhere the other car came careening wildly and collided with the driver’s side of his car, sending it “skidding” into the corner of the road.
Another eyewitness who spoke anonymously substantiated Murray’s version of what had happened, claiming further that beer bottles were found in PJJ 5798.
The driver of that car, however, suffered minor injuries and was escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), and was therefore unavailable for comment.
Asked about the beer bottles found in the car, a traffic rank stated that the driver of PJJ 5798 informed him that the bottles had been in his car for quite some time. This was however questioned by Mr. Murray, who challenged that assertion.
He claimed that when he rushed out of his vehicle at the time to confront the other driver, the man was hurrying, despite his injuries, to hide away something, which upon later investigation proved to be the beer bottles.
The traffic rank, however, revealed that a breathalyser test had indicated that neither of the men was under the influence of alcohol.
Murray is contending that, since he was not wrong and the other driver would not take blame for the accident, there are absolutely no talks between the parties in relation to settlement of the matter.
Eyewitnesses and Mr. Murray were both escorted to the Eve Leary Police Station for further investigation of the matter.
