REUNION Manganese Inc. has sponsored a nine-member medical team from the United States of America to conduct a number of clinics in Guyana. Led by Dr. Collie Oudkerk, a Guyanese, who works at the Brookdale Medical Hospital in Brooklyn, the team of two doctors, three nurses and four medical students from the Health and Educational Relief Organisation Inc. (HERO) of the USA comes to Guyana at least thrice yearly to do medical and surgical work.
The team travelled to Matthews Ridge on August 13, and conducted clinics at the Matthews Ridge Hospital and the Baramita Outpost for three days.
According to a press release from Reunion, the team is looking forward to paying more visits to areas such as Arakaka.
A total of 141 persons were treated at Baramita, and another 121 at Matthews Ridge, the company is quoted as saying in the release.
