Relatives of Ganga Parmessar Persaud believe him murdered

RELATIVES of Ganga Parmessar Persaud, 39, of Lot 1844 New Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, is appealing to the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to launch an investigation into the death of their loved one, who died under questionable circumstances on July 29 last at his home. On Friday last relatives told the Guyana Chronicle that a post mortem performed on the body by government Pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh, revealed that Persaud died as a result of asphyxiation due to compression injuries of the neck.
They are of the view that he did not take his own life as was told by his spouse and her family since he was not suicidal. Persaud had lived with his wife for the past 19 years even though the relationship was a stormy one.
The relationship produced two children: one aged 15, and the other 10 years.
Persaud’s siblings believe that he was murdered in his home after there was a heated argument between him and his wife, after which he was reportedly beaten by two male relatives, who were at the time staying with them while on a visit to Guyana from the United States.
Relatives said that the duo hurriedly left Guyana the next day for the US, which raised their suspicions even further. And when the incident took place, the family members were the last to know of it. When they arrived at the home of their loved one they were just told that he took his own life by hanging.
They told the Guyana Chronicle when they saw the body it had marks of violence as if he was the victim of a severe beating. They also learnt that the body was reportedly cut down from the shed, where it was hanging from a length of electrical cord, even before the police arrived at the scene.
The relatives stated that they do not believe Persaud killed himself because he had endured many hardships with his wife.  He was a family man and shared a ‘rocky’ relationship with his wife. With them, quarrels were the order of the day.
Persaud, a former manager attached to Pest Ex company was a victim of constant domestic abuse and was even tasked with all the household chores such as preparing meals. He always provided for his family and because of his children he remained in the relationship.
His relatives noted he was the lone male sibling among a group of six sisters, and his death came as a total shock to them since he was such a ‘family man’ who was lovable and loved life.
Police said they were investigating the death of a Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara resident, who reportedly took his own life by hanging.
Police said Persaud hanged himself under the house from a rafter sometime between 01:30 to 02:00 hours on July 29, 2012.
It was reported that Persaud had a misunderstanding with his wife and was later found hanging.
