SIXTEEN-YEAR OLD SARAH HAKH of Abram Zuil Secondary School has topped this year’s Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations with 16 Grade Ones making Essequibo proud. Sarah said she is both relieved and shocked at the news of her being this year’s top student. She explained that even though she was confident she would do well, she never really expected that she would have gained the top spot.
Hakh who attained Grade One passes in all 16 subjects she wrote, said that although she put in a lot of hard work, she owes much of her success to her family and teachers since they were the ones who pushed her to do her best.
She is also thankful to God for her success and all the opportunities he has given her. In addition, she had some personal tutors at home and also thanked them for their support and encouragement.
The student who has made Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) and Guyana proud said she has not chosen a career as yet because she is intrigued by so many things. However, she plans to attend college in the United States, focusing on Liberal Arts and Sciences.
When asked what advice she would give to other students preparing to sit the CSEC exams, Hakh said: “It’s about knowing what works for you, because what works for me may not work for someone else. It’s about knowing what you want and working towards that.”
She advised that she did not like to study much and always made sure she had time for movies, music and sports. She especially likes cricket and basketball.
The 16 subjects that Sarah Hakh wrote are English A, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Social Studies, Spanish, Principles of Business, Principles of Accounts, Office Administration, Economics, Electronics Document Preparation and Management, Agriculture Science, Home Economics Management, Food and Nutrition, Physical Education, Biology and Human and Social Biology.
