Councillors of the Region Two (Pomerron/Supenaam) Regional Democratic Council (RDC) have given their approval for the administration budget proposals for 2013.
At a special meeting held on Wednesday in the Regional Boardroom at Anna Regina members of the Region Two budget committee and managers of Departments and sections presented their budget proposals to the councillors. Regional Chairman, Mr. Parmanand Persaud said it is the first time such an activity concerning preparation of the Regional Budget is done with all councillors of the RDC.
Mr Persaud said councillors were presented with estimates from each Department to study and make their comments/inputs.
The Chairman said he wants the process involving the preparation of the budget to be transparent and all councillors must participate in the budget preparation.
Mr Persaud said the approved proposed budget will be sent to the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development then to the Ministry of Finance.
Mr. Persaud said the proposed budget was crafted to cover the entire region which will benefit all residents.
The sections approved were agriculture, public works, education, health and administration.
Under agriculture the focus will be on the maintenance of agriculture structures and to construct new ones (tail walls, revetments, culverts, timber bridges, regulators). The budget also proposes to construct at least 100 rods of all weather access dams in the rice growing areas to avoid mud on the public road.
The regional administration is also proposing to rehabilitate and pave several streets in 2013 and to acquire an excavator with rubber tracks to desilt and clean drains in residential areas.
Under education in 2013 the administration wants to rehabilitate the Cotton Field Secondary School and extend the Charity and Mainstay Primary Schools to accommodate more children.
Under health, new health post will be constructed to provide more health care to residents in interior areas.
Councillor of APNU, Mr Wazir Latiff said he is impressed with the proposed budget and gave his support.
