African drumming, fashion display at BOG Emancipation programme

THE Bank of Guyana (BOG) roof garden resonated to the sounds of lively music from drums and scenes of brightly coloured African outfits. The occasion was the annual Emancipation programme that opened with African drumming by members of the African Cultural and Development Association (ACDA).
The drummers played all the way up the stairs and were met at the top by enthusiastic cheers from the audience. The band then  sang some popular African folk songs.
ACDA dancers performed two pieces, the first one titled ‘Rage’ and the second, a traditional drum dance.

However, probably the most applauded was the one done by the Ascot High School Dance Troupe, who came all the way from Jamaica for this year’s Emancipation celebrations.
The Jamaican National Champions did their performance ‘Afro Men’, with ease, receiving loud cheers from the audience.
Next on stage was a fashion display by BOG staffers, as well as professional models, the latter displaying brightly coloured and intricately designed Ghanaian and Nigerian outfits by local designers.
