THE Government has awarded two contracts, worth $19.5M, for the construction of two concrete and steel bridges that will link the public road over drainage canals at Three Friends and Better Success on Essequibo Coast. That was disclosed on Wednesday when officers from the Ministry of Public Works and Hydraulics, Chairman of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaan), Mr. Parmanand Persaud and Vice-Chairman, Mr. Vishnu Samaroo inspected the old timber structures that will be demolished and spoke to contractors who will undertake the new constructions.
The Public Works officers also discussed the bills of quantities with the contractors and Regional officials.
One contractor, Deodat Singh, of Riverstown, got the award for the $10.3M job at Three Friends and M. Sukhai, of Walton Hall, the $9.1M at Better Success.
The works are to be finished in four months and will have a defects and liability period of 180 days.
Persaud said he is happy that the overpasses will be built and appealed to drivers of motor vehicles to be patient while the projects are being executed.
