Airport Grill & Bar hosts St Ignatius Sec. to dinner.

POPULAR businessman Lloyd Singh last Friday evening hosted the players, teachers, coach and other members of the touring party to a dinner at the Airport Bar and Grill, where he showed his appreciation for the team’s performance in the concluding Digicel National Schools Tournament in which this team finished third. Singh, his family, friends and other patrons present sought the opportunity to interact with the young hinterland footballers before being served dinner and words of inspiration from Bro. John Rodrigues.
The businessman noted that sports in Guyana and particularly the Hinterland is on the rise as he referred to football specifically, noting that it’s the first time Guyana have reached so far in the World Cup qualifiers and this is a testimony to the fact.
His second point related to St Ignatius Secondary School reaching the final four in the National schools football tournament for the second time, where over 100 secondary schools had participated and over 80% of the finalists hailed from hinterland schools.
This, he noted, is a major improvement for the hinterland people and schools with regard to sports in such a tournament.
Rodrigues, a former resident of St Ignatius, now a priest in training and residing on the coastline, encouraged the young footballers to strive for higher heights, excellence and maintain the high level of discipline which is going to form the foundation for each of them being good sportsmen for the school, community, region and country. He wished them success in the next tournament.
