Greenidge is not suitable for PNCR leadership

ON Wednesday (2012-07-11) evening I was most disappointed by the comments of Mr. Carl Greenidge on the GYSM television programme on Channel 9.Mr Greenidge is contesting for the right to lead the PNC. Now I did not mind Greenidge’s explanation as to why he thinks there needs to be a separate Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the PNCR which has been the focus of the campaign, saying that the pressures of both posts are too much for one person.
No doubt he expects members will see with his message and elect him to lead the party but even if I were inclined to support him in the upcoming Congress, after I observed his behaviour on that television programme  I don’t think he is fit to lead any political party or organisation.
Now here it is he is calling for a separation of roles but in his invited remarks at the conclusion of the programme he launched a not-so-cryptic attack on Mr. Granger with regard to his ability to hold the position of Leader of the Opposition.
In essence, he stated that he was the obvious choice if persons were looking for an effective leader to challenge the PPP on the political front. Now what has that got to do with our internal elections, as the job of dealing with the ruling party is that of the Leader of the Opposition, so here is Greenidge instead of maintaining his initial campaign focus of separate leaders is now attacking Mr. Granger’s competence as Leader of the Opposition and it is now clear as to exactly where his interest lies and this Congress is merely a stepping stone for him to achieve his ultimate desire.
This shameless hunger for ultimate power from politicians who constantly tell us the average citizens that they are concerned about representing our interests and issues so we must elect them is merely a sham, as all they are interested in is satisfying their unquenchable thirst for ultimate power and I hope those who will be voting at the upcoming congress take note of such behaviour.
I also take offence to Mr. Greenidge’s assertions that people must not approach the upcoming congress as if they are going to fight a war in his reference to a party member rebuking him for contesting the post of leadership in the party. This is a direct attack on the military background of Mr. Granger and is contrary to Greenidge’s call for the elections to be held in a civil manner, as here it is clear evidence of how he is spurring on the disruption of the process by his ill- considered remarks.
I think if we are going to get people’s backgrounds involved in the fray it should be for everyone and as such, Mr. Greenidge’s background when he was our Finance Minister should be discussed also by members before they decide to vote.
