Court told… POLICE RESPONDING TO REPORT FINDS MAN WITH GUN

GEORGE Green, 27, of Lot 29 North East La Penitence, Georgetown, was remanded to prison, by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton yesterday, on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, ammunition and threatening behaviour. Particulars of two of the offences said, on July 10, he had one ‘Intratec Luger’ pistol with 47 live 9mm rounds, while not being the holder of licences.
Another charge said, the same day, he made use of threatening behaviour to Shondell Evans but Green pleaded not guilty to all.
Attorney-at-law Mr. James Bond, advancing special reasons for bail, claimed that, when the gun and bullets were found, the defendant had already been in custody for the threatening behaviour charge.
The lawyer said the police first stated that the items were taken from an alleyway but, at the station, Green was shown the firearm and ammo and given ownership.
Bond said the prisoner was beaten by the police and made to sign a caution statement and, instead of taking him to court the following day, they waited until his wounds were healed.
The lawyer maintained that Green has no knowledge of the offences.
But Police Sergeant Alexis David-Hossanah, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail and said, it was when ranks responded to a threatening behaviour report, made by Green’s sister, that the defendant was seen standing in an alleyway.
The prosecutor said, when he was arrested, the defendant had a bag containing the firearm and ammunition.
Green has to be back in Court on July 26.
