President still counting on Ramkarran’s return to PPP

PRESIDENT Donald Ramotar is still hopeful that senior party member and former speaker of the National Assembly Ralph Ramkarran will recant his recent resignation from the People’s Progressive Party (PPP). The President said he plans to make contact with the practising attorney who, a few weeks ago, penned a one line letter of resignation to the President who is also General Secretary of the party in government.
His decision came after a meeting of the Executive Committee where a heated debate ensued between Ramkarran and another member. The party had since issued an apology to the long serving member.
Questioned yesterday by sections of the media, President Ramotar said the differences are not “fundamental” and that “Ralph has made an enormous contribution to our party, to the struggle in our country and I surely would like him to return to the party.”
