THE Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the United Nations Populations Fund (UNFPA), will be launching the Guyana Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care Assessment (EmONC) report in observance of World Population Day 2012, which will be celebrated tomorrow under the theme ‘Universal Access to Reproductive Health Services’. The Guyana EmONC assessment is a national cross-sectional facility-based survey which was conducted in 2010. It provides a baseline upon which future progress to strengthen health services for pregnant women and newborns can be measured.
It provides recommendation upon which actions must be taken and identifies inter-sectoral responsibilities in reducing maternal and infant deaths.
Minister of Health Dr. Bheri Ramsaran will officially launch World Population Day 2012 at a ceremony planned for tomorrow morning at the Ocean View International Hotel.
