PERHAPS, it is not ridiculous to ask if our political leaders in the central and local governments have a problem reading and reacting to reports about atrocious conditions existing all over Guyana, if not seeing this themselves. A recent letter in the Chronicle about the condition of the seawall touted as a tourist attraction and the reports about similar sites, including Parliament itself, justifies these questions.
Why have our elected officials allowed these unsanitary conditions to exist? If these politicians really were interested in making Guyana a better place they would have at least expressed some form of indignation or would have attempted to confront these conditions. It may be unfair to simply say that they either do not know better or are incompetent or do not give a d**m. Apparently, the latter may be said of the polluters and the general public, since nothing is being done. The more things change, the more they remain the same?
Unsanitary conditions existing across the country need to be addressed
