Dead Randy Morris accomplice granted $1M bail

TRAYON Moore,28, of Lot 111 D’Urban Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown, who surrendered to police when wanted man Randy Morris was shot dead, made another court appearance yesterday. On a renewed application by Ms. Latchmi Rahamat, in association with Mr. Peter Hugh, Moore was granted $1M bail by Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Rahamat claimed Moore was severely beaten and needs medical attention as he had not been taken to a hospital up to now.
The case will be called, again, on July 30.
Moore is charged, indictably, with attempted robbery under arms. Particulars of the offence said, last June 23, on Robb Street, being armed with a gun, he made an attempt to rob Mandaray Sookah of a bag containing $400,000.
On his previous appearance, Police Sergeant Philip Sheriff, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant was going to her car when the accused snatched at her bag but she held on to it and he then brandished a gun and ordered her to be quiet.
The Prosecutor said Sookah complied but fell and an alarm was raised, causing Moore to run, but police responded promptly and he was apprehended on Church Street, in Georgetown, too.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Peter Hugh, for the accused, said Moore was severely beaten by the police and civilians.
The lawyer acknowledged that Moore was implicated as an accomplice and was in a vehicle driven by Morris, when the latter tried to rob Sookah.
But, according to Hugh, Moore happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time but had nothing to do with the robbery bid.
Last Saturday, Morris and Moore led dozens of Police ranks on a high speed chase through several city streets that ended in Queenstown, where Morris was killed by police gunfire.
