Teenager on burglary charge granted $30,000 bail

SEVENTEEN-YEAR-OLD Arun Rampersaud called ’Sandy’, of Kilcoy Squatting Area, Corentyne, was granted $30,000 bail on a break and enter and larceny charge last Friday.
He appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo at New Amsterdam Court, also in Berbice, where he faced a second charge of simple larceny but was released on his own recognisance, in that case, after he undertook to attend Albion Court, Corentyne, as well, on July 27.
Police Corporal Roberto Figueira, prosecuting in the burglary case, said, on June 24, at Fyrish Village, Corentyne, the defendant broke into the dwelling house of Gangadei Tarru and stole a multi-coloured bedroom slippers, a pair of spectacles and groceries, all to the total value of $35,000.
Two days later, in the same village, he stole a bicycle worth $24,000, property of Alundra Sarjoo, the prosecutor said.
