Wisburg Secondary crowned GBFA inaugural PowerAde champs

WISBURG Secondary School crowned themselves in glory last weekend when they defeated Christianburg/Wismar Secondary 9-7 in triple overtime at the Bayroc sand reserve, to claim the inaugural Guyana Beach Football Association (GBFA)-organised Banks DIH PowerAde trophy. The scoreline read 5-5 at the end of regulation time, after the eventual champions gave away a penalty to the opposition with a mere 30 seconds to go, in which Allan Halley calmly converted the opportunity, to send the small gathering into frenzy.
Runic Velloza, the star for Wisburg Secondary, converted his goal-scoring opportunities in the 3rd, 6th, 9th 30th and 37th minutes of the game, after Omeion Wills had scored in the first for Wisburg Secondary.
Christianburg/Wismar got their goals from Donovan Francis who scored a hattrick in the 12th, 15th and 19th minutes of the contest, while Marley Davidson had a 20th minute strike recorded on the score sheet and Akeem Gullien added the fifth in the 38th minute.
With chants of defence coming from the crowd who wasted no time in urging Wisburg Secondary on, Dellon Skeete scored a brace for his team in the 38th and 43rd minute of play, which knocked the winds out of the opposition’s sails.
Earlier in the day, Wisburg overcame Linden School of Excellence (LSE) 9-6 and Christianburg/Wismar Secondary defeated New Silvercity Secondary 9-2 in their respective semifinal matchup, while in the third place playoff, New Silvercity Secondary lost 9-4 to Linden School of Excellence.
Not only did LSE take home the third place trophy, but they were also awarded the Fair Play award.  Velloza took home the Highest Goalscorer award for his 16 goals along with the MVP award, while Wisburg’s Tevin Thompson was awarded the best goalkeeper prize.
