Guinness Caribbean Street Football Challenge …

Guyana and St Vincent on top after first night
HOST Guyana and St Vincent and the Grenadines jumped to the top of the points standing at the conclusion of the opening night of the Guinness Street Football Challenge on Thursday night at the National Park Tarmac.
The teams are both on six points as Guyana defeated Antigua and Trinidad & Tobago (T&T) while St Vincent got past St Lucia and Antigua, but Guyana have a goal difference of six while S. Vincent’s goal difference is one.
T&T defeated St Lucia 2-0 to move on to three points while St Lucia and Antigua are yet to record a point.
In the remaining matches on the opening night, T&T’s Antonio Belfour scored a double to take his team past St Lucia while St Vincent defeated Antigua 2-1 on penalty kicks after playing to a nil-all draw and in the final game of the night, Bertie Pedro’s strike was enough to help Guyana defeat T&T.
So far, Guyana are the most favoured team to claim the inaugural title after they displayed terrific skill, fitness and cohesion. Following, but not closely, are T&T who defended well against Guyana but attack was faint, while St Vincent also displayed a good defensive attitude, but lacked firepower.
St Lucia and Antigua are almost two evenly matched teams that lack attack power, speed and fitness and in last night’s action, Antigua went up against T&T, Guyana were challenged by St Vincent, Antigua battled with St Lucia, T&T opposed St Vincent and Guyana took on St Lucia.
