Review of tax system halted

– due to illness of panel member
WORK on the review of Guyana’s taxation system has been halted as a result of the illness of one of the three-member panel appointed by President Donald Ramotar.
This disclosure was made by Head of the Presidential Secretariat and Secretary to the Cabinet, Dr Roger Luncheon, at his weekly post-cabinet press briefing yesterday at the Office of the President.
According to Dr Luncheon, the return of the ill member to the panel has been ruled out; and as such, Cabinet is in the process of finding a replacement and this should happen shortly.
The president, who had made a promise during last year’s election campaign  to have the taxation system reviewed, delivered on his promise shortly after  his assumption to office and named a three-member panel, comprising Clifford Reis, Ronald Ali and Cyril Solomon, to undertake the review process and make pertinent recommendations.
