TERRY Joseph (no address given), who confessed to stealing wet clothes from a laundry line belonging to Neesha Khan, was fined $40,000 with an alternative of six months imprisonment on Wednesday. Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo imposed the monetary penalty on him in New Amsterdam Court, Berbice, where he pleaded guilty to the larceny.
Police Inspector Jairam Ramlakhan, prosecuting, said, on June 8, the virtual complainant had laundered clothing for members of her household before leaving for her work place.
But, in her absence, the thief went into her fenced yard, where Khan’s teenager daughter saw him removing the garments.
The witness telephoned her mother who, subsequently, reported the matter to Central Police station in New Amsterdam and the booty was recovered, the prosecutor said.
