THE trial involving accused Eon Williams, called ‘Georgie’, for the murder of Kwasi Wilson, called ‘Kwesi’, which was aborted last week when a juror with a hearing defect suddenly complained that he knows a relative of the deceased, and caused Justice Roxanne George to abort the trial, re-started yesterday and was aborted in an almost similar situation. On the first occasion, the juror, who, before taking the oath, had told the judge, with the rest of jurors, that he did not know either the deceased, accused, or their relatives, waited until the prosecutor was about to address the jury to signal to the registrar that he knew the relatives of the deceased.
Unlike the first occasion, when the complaint was made while the prosecutor was getting ready to deliver her opening address to the jury, yesterday’s complaint came after the jurors had been sworn and after they had collectively told the judge “we know not the accused and his relatives nor the deceased and his relatives.”
However, the judge in an effort to prevent another abortion, notified court officials to take the necessary precaution to ensure that the relatives are in court so that the jurors would not be in doubt.
The serving jurors before Justice George’s Court have been ordered to return to court tomorrow, when the court will make another attempt to empanel a 12-member jury to try the case.
Eon Williams called ‘Georgie’ is indicted for the murder of Kwasi Wilson, said to be have been committed between the 9th and 10th April, 2007.
