Taxi driver refused bail on armed robbery charges

TAXI driver Owen Orvin (no address given) was refused bail yesterday on three charges of robbery under arms. He was charged, indictably, before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton on three counts that:

* on May 28, in David Street Kitty, being armed with a gun he robbed Desmond Wilson of one Blackberry cell phone valued $130,000 and $65,000 cash;
* the same day, being armed with a gun, he robbed Regan Ashley of $10,000 and
* that day, as well, being armed with a gun, he robbed Leslie Campbell of US$110 and G$130,000.
Police Corporal Simone Payne, prosecuting, successfully objected to pre-trial freedom for Orvin, based on the prevalence and seriousness of the offence.
The prosecutor also pointed out that the prisoner has no fix place of abode.
Orvin will make his next court appearance on June 18.
