THE man who scolded his stepson, with an electricity cord, because he ate the last piece of fish available in the house, was sentenced to nine months imprisonment yesterday.
Gavin Rodney (no address given) was jailed by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton after he pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm. He committed the May 22 offence on the 10-year-old boy.
Police Corporal Simone Payne, prosecuting, said the prisoner has a relationship with the child’s mother and, when he arrived home, he discovered the last piece of fish that the woman had cooked was missing.
The prosecutor said Rodney smelled the boy’s mouth and, upon smelling fish, he beat him with an electrical wire.
Rodney begged for mercy and told the court that the boy would, usually, steal things around the house.
He claimed that he used a cable and not an electrical cord but the magistrate, before passing sentence, declared that where she will send him, he would never again ill-treat another child.
