PANDITS who recently completed a training course conducted by the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha will be receiving their certificates at a ceremony tomorrow at the Sanskritik Kendra, Prashad Nagar, Gerogetown at 13:00 hrs. The Sabha, in a release, said it has been training and providing facilities for our Pandits to improve their standard of education. They have written Sanskrit and Gita Examinations in 2011/2012 of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Mumbai, India. Sanskrit is mandatory in conducting pujas, weddings and other religious functions.
The Sabha noted that it has been conducting Sanskrit, Gita and Hindi classes in an effort to improve the education of Pandits who are trained at the Sanskritik Kendra.
According to the Sabha, the results showed maximum passes. Five pandits wrote level 3 – Pravesha of Sanskrit examination; three wrote level 4 – Pariachaya.
Nine Pandits wrote Parambha – 1st level of the Gita Examination; five wrote Pravesha – 2nd level; three wrote the 3rd and 4th levels Parichaya and Kovida. All the students were successful at these examinations which were set and marked in India.
The presentation ceremony will be presided over by Mrs. Chandra Gajraj, General Secretary of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha. President Donald Ramotar is slated to be the guest of honour and Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Dr. Frank Anthony will convey greetings to the organisation.
President of the Sabha, Pandit Reepu Daman Persaud will speak on the value of knowing Hindi and Sanskrit in the Hindu clergy. Pandit Purshotam Shivraj will reflect on the development of the students. The proceedings will be interspersed with vocal music.
