ACTING Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry commenced the trial yesterday, of one of the assault and threatening language charges, against Information and Press Liaison to the President, Kwame McCoy. Assistant Superintendent of Police, Changers was the first witness called and he was followed by the virtual complainant, Clifton Stewart.
Sergeant Roseann Forde was the last witness to testify and they were all cross-examined by Senior Counsel Bernard De Santos, for the Defence.
The trial will continue on June 4.
Particulars of the offence said, McCoy, last November 12, two weeks before the general elections, lashed Stewart with a firearm in Norton Street, Georgetown.
It is alleged that it happened after Stewart spoke to Mc Coy about posting photographs of presidential candidates.
McCoy is also charged with threatening Stewart, telling him he was a marked man and should watch himself.
McCoy is facing another charge of assault causing actual bodily harm to Natalie Ross, who he is accused of maliciously and unlawfully wounding with his Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) rendering the woman unconscious.
That case will be called on June 4, as well.
