The move is spearheaded by businessman Vishnu Bandhu and is designed to attract young people country-wide. Persons forming the organization were drawn from several areas of Guyana.
The move is part of the fund-raising venture to raise funds for the purchase of an Indian Musical Orchestra which, on being obtained, will attract and encourage young people to be part of the cultural activities attracting young people throughout Guyana.
The effort is part of the organization’s fund-raising drive for the purchase of equipment. Overseas organizations and individuals are being encouraged to help raise funds and to solicit individuals to donate pieces of instruments for the proposed Indian Musical Orchestra.
The Arts and Culture Federation was recently formed and moves are afoot to obtain eight acres of land on which several buildings will be constructed. It is hoped that on completion of the project, living quarters will be provided for older persons as well as an orphanage for children.
According to a statement from the organisation, “the Arya benevolent homes will bring comfort and happiness to the older folks who, by mingling with the children, could find a source of communication and inspiration.”
“It is the hope of the organisers that the young and the old will find each other’s company to be good for each other,” the Federation of Arts and Culture said in a statement.
The home will also provide teaching of Indian music, language, dancing, yoga and meditation, among other things.
The organisation’s board of directors and members also believe that the effort will aid in the move to preserve and maintain Indian culture in Guyana, under the motto of ‘One People, One Nation with One Destiny’.
In addition, organisers have issued a nation-wide call for Indians to unite in the efforts to ensure that members of all Indian communities are adequately provided for in the venture. In addition to the ‘seven curry’ provided for the occasion, other food stuff was on sale to individuals who attended the food sale held on Sunday 27th May – 2012, at 48 New Road Vreed-en-hoop, on the West Coast of Demerara.
