A FORTY-TWO-YEAR-OLD man was killed in a muddy rice field, at Maria’s Lodge backdam, on the Essequibo Coast, late Monday afternoon, after being pinned below when the tractor he was driving toppled. Dhanraj Seurattan was ploughing a plot when the fatal accident occurred.
His uncle, Krishna Singh said he was at home when he got a message from his neighbour, telling him his nephew was trapped under an overturned tractor.
He said he ran to the backdam where a crowd had already gathered and saw part of his nephew’s two feet in the mud with the tractor covering the rest of his body.
According to Singh, Police arrived on the scene promptly and, with the help of another tractor, pulled the toppled machine away and retrieved the lifeless body of Seurattan, covered in mud and blood.
The deceased, known as ‘Jango’, was rushed to Suddie Hospital, also on the Essequibo Coast but was pronounced dead on arrival, leaving, to mourn, his wife and four children.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the death.
