At Anna Regina car park…Sale of alcoholic beverages to be monitored

VICE-CHAIRMAN of Region 2(Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Vishnu Samaroo has announced that the Anna Regina Town Council and the Regional Democratic Council (RDC), in collaboration with the police, will be monitoring the car park area to ensure that alcoholic beverages are not sold to schoolchildren or other members of the public.
He said the issue of students, especially those from the Anna Regina Technical Institute (ETI), was raised at last month’s statutory meeting by Alliance For Change (AFC) Councillor, Mr. Naithram and a meeting was held with the police to discuss it.
Updating the RDC on the discussions, Samaroo said it was revealed that students from ETI were seen drinking beer at the park.
Anna Regina Mayor, Mr. Sammy Rampersaud, who was involved in the talks, confirmed that vendors at the park are illegally selling alcoholic beverages.
Naithram told the RDC statutory that he, recently, saw ETI students drinking beer and stout at the location.
However, Samaroo informed him that they only met with the police on Monday and gave the assurance that the parking area will be strictly monitored to discourage the practice.
