No magic formula for achieving success at Anna Regina municipality

THERE is no magic formula or blueprint for achieving success at the Anna Regina municipality. Success will be earned by the constant and strenuous application of our commonsense and our physical energies to solving the numerous problems which will inevitably confront the township on the way. The development of our township is not a task merely for the government and the Ministry of Local Government or for professional planners in collecting our garbage. We can achieve success only if the Mayor and Councillors seek to understand the nature of national development and accept individual and collective responsibility for the work to be done.
The new garbage truck which was acquired by the now deceased Town Clerk Mr. Ganga Persaud over the past six (6) months is not being used at all, or it is being underused within the township. The Council’s systems malfunction and operate inefficiently because of inadequate supervision or failure to correct some faults. Many times the lorry and garbage tractor are not fully utilised by the Council to serve the taxpayers although they have to pay extra for these services.
Over the years, the government has made massive investments in the Anna Regina Town Council. The millions of dollars spent on salaries, tractor and trailer, backhoe, securities, roads, streets, drainage, a spanking 50 million dollar-building in my tenure as the Acting Mayor and training. The Ministry of Local Government must now ensure that we the taxpayers get real benefits from these investments. The government must act urgently to remove the many problems which have in the past and present hampered the municipality. One of the most important of these is the problem of bad management; the council has not acted on the issue of the idle and inefficiently utilised garbage lorry which cost millions of dollars, although several complaints were made to the Mayor and the acting Town Clerk.
The Ministry of Local Government must ensure that the administrative, managerial, financial and other supportive arrangements are in place to improve the quality of life of the taxpayers in this township.
