THE Berbice Cricket Board 2012 Guyoil/Castrol Countywide coaching programme, which was sponsored to the tune of $312 000, has gotten off to a successful start with coaching sessions at the Bush Lot and Blairmont Cricket grounds, April 16 and 17 . The sessions were conducted by coaches Michael Hyles Franco, Julian Moore, Floyd Benjamin and Winston Smith, who catered for youths from the Under-13 to Under-19 levels respectively.
Chairman of the BCB Special Events Committee, Hilbert Foster, expressed total satisfaction with the coaching sessions which have so far attracted a combined 165 youths at six venues across the Ancient County.
A total of 26 cricketers attended the sessions at the Bush Lot Ground and 24 at the Blairmont Community Centre. On April 19 and 20, the sessions had 25 cricketers at the Cumberland Ground in Canje while Berbice High School had an attendance of 28.
The coaches visited Albion and Area ‘H’ grounds on April 25 and 26 with 32 youths giving them their undivided attention at the latter venue and another 30 at the former.
The coaches used the two-day sessions to improve the young cricketers’ batting, bowling and fielding skills while pep talks have also been held on topics of importance.
The Guyoil/Castrol Coaching Programme would continue on May 2 and 3 at the Port Mourant and Kennard Memorial Cricket grounds from 15:00hrs to 18:00hrs, while the coaches would also be at the Mibicuri cricket ground on May 6 from 09:00hrs to 15:00hrs.
All young cricketers in those areas are asked to attend the sessions in order to be considered for selection to the Elite Training Squad which would be selected after the programme ends on May 27.
