Minibus passengers injured in one of two accidents

SEVERAL persons, among them passengers in a route 32 minibus were seriously injured when it slammed into a culvert and a utility pole and was badly damaged, early yesterday morning. The accident occurred on Cornelia Ida Public Road, West Coast Demerara, shortly after 06:30hrs when one of the tyres on the vehicle blew out.
At the time, the bus was proceeding to Georgetown.
The driver, who was taken into custody to assist with investigations, told police the road was wet and that caused him to lose control.
The persons who suffered injuries were all rushed to the nearby Leonora Cottage Hospital where they were being treated and monitored up to press time.
Meanwhile, after midday yesterday, a Canter truck careened off the Rupert Craig Highway, in the vicinity of Atlantic Ville, East Coast Demerara, where it ended up resting on its side.
Police went to the scene, hauled it out of a trench and placed it back on its wheels, without the driver and other occupants being
hurt.
