Man charged with threatening mother also bonded
A MAN charged with threatening his mother was, yesterday, put on a bond to keep the peace and ordered to lodge $25,000 surety, pending the outcome of his trial.
Elton Amsterdam (no address given) pleaded not guilty to the charge before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Particulars of the offence said on April 21, he made use of threatening language to Leona Tortun, causing a breach of the peace.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the defendant and his mother had an argument and he threatened to slap and get rid of her.
The prosecutor, while not objecting to bail, asked that a condition be attached.
The virtual complainant, who was in Court, said her son is in the habit of verbally abusing her and she cannot talk to him about anything.
Amsterdam has to be back in court on May 30.
