YWCC acquires self-driven lawn mower

IN AN effort to maintain and further improve the outfield of the Young Warriors Cricket Club (YWCC) ground located at Cumberland Village, East Canje Berbice, the club recently acquired a new Craftsman brand self-driven lawn mower from Sears Miami for the cost of $340 000. The club, which is the first in Berbice and one of the few in Guyana to own such equipment, is faced with the task to raise funds to pay for the land mower which was bought by a friend of the club who asked to be refunded.
YWCC call on good corporate citizens, businesses and private individuals to assist in helping to raise the funds, as over the years and despite the many challenges faced, the club is still working hard to provide a top class cricket ground for the players.
They are also asking members of the community to care the facility for it is the only ground in the New Amsterdam/Canje area that can host cricket finals and Inter-County Under-21 matches among other games.
Over the years, the club produced many national players at all levels, including former national captain Damodar Daesrath, Gajanand Singh, Richard Ramdeen, Paul Wintz, Balram Samaroo, Quesi Maltay, Seon Hetmyer, Kevin Ramdeen, Linden Austin and Shimron Hetmyer among others.
The Club continues to fulfil its mandate of helping to keep young people positively occupied and to stay away from drugs and alcohol and would like to thank Mr Buddy Seunarine of Caribbean Dry Cleaners in Miami, Mr Avinash Bhagwandin, Managing Director, Laparkan, Mr Sarabdial and Mr Dharmendra also of Laparkan and GRA for VAT exemption.
The club is in the process of building another pavilion while some of the future plans include taking in new lands for parking areas and purchasing floodlights for the venue so that night activities can be held.
