‘The Hammer’ still awaiting word

EVEN though they placed second to group winner InterMoengotapoe of Suriname in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship held here recently, national club champions Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United are yet to know if they have advanced to the next round of the competition. According to vice-president of the club Steve Ninvalle, a visit to the www.wikipedia.com website unearthed Alpha’s place in the next round, but when he contacted acting president of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Franklyn Wilson, no official word was given on same.
According to Ninvalle, his search on Wikipedia unearthed Alpha being placed in a group which also has Islanders from Antigua, Georgetown from St Lucia and AIA Caledonia of Trinidad and Tobago for the next round.
“We are waiting to receive an official word on whether or not we have advanced to the next round of the tournament.
Nevertheless, Alpha are still in training and we are preparing because we understand that the next round will get under way from May 1 to 6 and if that is a fact, we must continue with our preparation as we don’t wish to be caught off-guard preparation-wise, when that call should come through,” said Ninvalle.
Meanwhile, when contacted for an update on the matter, Wilson said the GFF did receive a call from Ninvalle and they are handling the matter as a priority, as they themselves are awaiting word from the CFU.
InterMoengotapoe played unbeaten in the group whose matches were held at the Guyana National Stadium, while Alpha won two of their three matches to place second, while Hubentut Fortuna and Linden’s CBR Milerock occupied the other two positions in the group.
