Father charged, again, with harming daughter

– chopped her for playing with hot peppers
– wounded four-yr-old child last year because she could not spell ‘pig’
A MAN, who was charged with wounding his four-year-old daughter last year after she could not spell ‘pig’, appeared in court, again, yesterday.
This time, the charge alleges that he chopped the same child because he found her playing with hot peppers.
Floyd La Fleur (no address given) pleaded not guilty, before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, to having on April 18, 2012, unlawfully wounded his now five-year-old daughter.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the father saw the girl playing with hot peppers, took a knife and inflicted a chop on her head and her mother reported the incident,
La Fleur told the court he was making a broom and the place was dark when the child ran into him and suffered the wound on her head. He claimed it was an accident, but he was pleading guilty because he does not have money to bail himself.
The magistrate informed the defendant that he has to accept the police’s facts before he can plead guilty and she recorded a not guilty plea instead.
On May 24, 2011, the defendant had appeared before the same magistrate, charged with wounding the very child because she could not spell ‘pig’ and he was remanded to prison.
However, the outcome of that case could not be ascertained as it was heard in camera.
But, on the fresh charge, he was ordered to lodge $50,000 surety until May 2.
The prosecutor informed the court that an investigation would be carried out, as the defendant has other children that he may be harming.
The five-year-old girl is presently being kept by the Child Care and Protection Agency.
