Magistrate remands abusive man for threatening to kill his wife
NEW Amsterdam Magistrate Roby Benn on Friday remanded wife beater Kern Wilson to prison because he threatened to kill his wife after she had threatened to report to the police that he had assaulted her. Police Corporal Roberto Figueira, prosecuting, opposed Wilson being granted pretrial liberty, while informing the court of how seriously the offences that he had been charged with were affecting the society.
Moreover, the prosecutor informed the court that the defendant had been placed on station bail following a previous allegation against him; and despite that incident, he had allegedly repeated the offence, and had also threatened to take the life of the woman, should she report the matter to the police, who have the responsibility to protect her.
Particulars of Wilson’s offence state that on April 7, at about 17:30hrs, Shellon, his wife of nine years, instructed her son to collect a book from his teacher, who lived nearby, but her husband disagreed with his wife’s instruction. As a result, an argument ensued, and the defendant allegedly slapped his wife several times across her face.
The matter was reported to the police, and Wilson was placed on $10,000 station bail. Three days later, the couple’s five-year-old son opted to throw his eating utensil outside the home, instead of placing it in the sink to be washed. His mother rebuked him over his behaviour, but on hearing his wife correct his son, Wilson got annoyed and dealt the complainant several slaps across her face.
As a result, the woman informed him that she was disgusted with his attitude of always knocking at her, as if she was his child, and that she was going to report the incident at Central Police Station.
The defendant allegedly became infuriated with her stance on the issue, and threatened to kill her; but his threat did not deter her from reporting the matter to the police.
The case is fixed for report and fixture on April 30.
