Muslim scholar sexual assault case adjourned to April 24

IMAM Nizam Ali, the Muslim scholar known as ‘Mufti’, of ‘A’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown, made another Court appearance yesterday. But the trial, in which he is charged with engaging in sexual intercourse with boys under the age of 12, at the Turkeyen Masjid, did not proceed at Sparendaam Court, also on the East Coast Demerara.
Magistrate Alex Moore, who is conducting the hearing in camera, adjourned it to April 24.
Ali is alleged to have sexually assaulted seven boys where they, usually, go to take Quran and Arabic lessons from him, between December 2011 and January 2012.
Until the resumption, the virtual complainants are being kept by the Child Care and Protection Agency.
