THE President must continue his visits to important project sites and areas to get a clearer picture of these operations as is possible. In addition, he must insist on getting up-to-date information on them, including any problems and recommended solutions at least once or twice a month. The President must now insist that his ministers spend as much time as necessary to monitor and ensure that their areas of responsibility are not only operating as expected, but be constantly seeking to improve them. Preventive maintenance and protection of government property seems an after-thought by ministries for too many projects.
Ministers and/or OP need to have at least one person, if possible, assigned to ensure that specific areas or contracts or projects are performing as planned.
No one person can effectively manage multiple projects and be aware of everything in a timely manner. If a project is considered important enough, then a ‘project Monitor’ or manager should be specially assigned.
Special attention should be paid to all links in the chain of command, since the weakest or lowest link (person) may derail a programme, service or project. Proactive also mean not waiting for problems to surface but preventing them, not denying them but fixing them.
