Norton Street man remanded on five robbery, larceny charges

LEROY Williams, 21, of Lot 71 Norton Street, Lodge, Georgetown, was remanded to prison yesterday on charges of robbery under arms and larceny from the person. Before Magistrate Allan Wilson, he was not required to plea to the indictable offences, particulars in two of which said, on February 13, being armed with a gun, he robbed Stephan Sookram of one cell phone valued $44,000 and $4,000 and Doodnauth Sookram of one $50,000 cell phone and $15,000.
Williams was also accused of having, on March 19, being similarly armed, robbed Lasel Duke of $29,940 and, on March 30, stolen two gold chains worth $160,000 from Cecilia Stewart and, on April 2, stolen a $120,000 gold chain from Vanessa Smith.
Police Sergeant, Gordon Mansfield, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail for Williams, citing the prevalence and seriousness of the crimes and that they were committed on five different virtual complainants.
Williams told the court he was in police custody for eight days and was not told why.
The cases will be called, again, on April 18.
