ACTING on information received, CANU yesterday intercepted a man with 21.748 kgs of cocaine as he was about to board a boat at the backtrack crossing in Berbice for Nickerie. The man, a Nigerian national, had the drug in a small suitcase with his clothing.
The 37-year-old is currently on bail facing charges for trafficking. He was also arrested on February 23, 2011, with 4 bricks of cocaine at a hotel. He was on $750,000.00 bail.
CANU continues to work with members of the various task forces created by the Ministry of Home Affairs to curb the flow of drugs into the country, and to ensure that Guyana is not labeled a drug –transit country.
