ALVIN Ahmad (no address given) was remanded to prison yesterday on charges of possession of firearm and ammunition without licence and unlawful assault and threatening behaviour. He appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded not guilty to all the charges, two of which stated that, on March 10, he unlawfully assaulted Elton Singh and, the same day, he made use of threatening behaviour to him.
Other charges said, on March 28, he was in possession of a 12-gauge shotgun and seven matching cartridges without being the holder of a firearm licence.
Police Corporal Jairam Luckhai, prosecuting, said, on March 10, the virtual complainant and defendant had a misunderstanding over chasing a dog and the defendant became annoyed, cuffed Singh several times, then pointed a gun at him and threatened to kill him.
The Prosecutor said the virtual complainant became afraid and reported the matter and when police went to arrest the defendant on March 28, the firearm and ammunition were found in his home and he admitted being the owner.
The case will be called again on April 3.
