BCB launches Norman Singh Memorial T20 tournament for West Berbice clubs

THE Berbice Cricket Board’s (BCB) commitment to clubs in the West Berbice area continues to be fulfilled, with the launching of a t20 tournament for the area, thanks to the generosity of the Management of Norman Singh Memorial who handed over a cheque for $120 000 to the BCB. Public Relations Officer of the BCB Officer, Hilbert Foster, last Thursday told his audience at the simple presentation ceremony held at the Regional Democratic Council Office of Region 5 that the Board had committed to host three tournaments for West Berbice in 2012.
These commitments are fulfilled with the recent launching of the Hand-in-Hand 40 Overs and Jumbo Jet two-day Inter-zone tournaments and now the Norman Singh Memorial t20.
He urged the clubs in the area to strive for excellence at all times and to make sure that they take advantage of the opportunities that are being presented to them by the BCB. He explained that the t20 tournament would be played on a knock-out basis among 16 teams, with the final scheduled for the Blairmont Community Centre.
Foster extended gratitude to the Regional Chairman of Region 5 Mr. B. Bisnauth, who assisted the BCB in obtaining the sponsorship.
Noting that the BCB enjoys a good relationship with both the Region 5 and Region 6 Regional Democratic Councils, Foster said that cricket in the Ancient County is set to achieve even greater heights this year.
In handing over the sponsorship cheque, Bisnauth praised the BCB for the outstanding work it is doing for the game in Berbice and offered congratulations to the Board for the investment it is making in Region 5.
He committed his administration to working along with the BCB and also to assisting with the cricket grounds in the Region. He also expressed gratitude to Norman Singh Memorial for readily agreeing to the sponsorship.
Apart from the three tournaments, the BCB has already hosted a one-day cricket academy and several coaching clinics in West Berbice while several clubs have also benefited from millions of dollars worth of gear and other items from the BCB and Food for the Poor.
