Chief Magistrate remands Phagwah Day murder accused Kevin Ally

KEVIN Ally (no address given), the man who allegedly stabbed to death Abdul Nassair, a father of three, last Phagwah Day, March 8, was remanded to prison last Friday on the capital offence of murder when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry. Police Corporal Jairam Luckhai, prosecuting, said that on the day in question, the accused was walking along Carmichael Street, Georgetown when some children threw water on him. He became annoyed and began to verbally abuse the children.
Nassair, who was nearby, heard the accused and told him not to behave in that manner toward the children. The accused became annoyed, pulled out a knife from his waistband, and attacked Nassair, stabbing him several times. Nassair was taken to the hospital, where he subsequently died.
According to the prosecutor, the accused was hospitalized since the incident occurred, and was discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital only on March 15.
Ally will make another court appearance on April 16.
