MRS. PATRICIA Chase-Green, who has been discharging the duties of the late Deputy Mayor Robert Williams, was officially appointed to that position last Monday.
An announcement of her appointment was made at the council’s usual fortnightly statutory meeting, where most of the councillors voted in favour of her appointment. Chase-Green had been discharging the duties of former Deputy Mayor Robert Williams until he would have been in stable condition to resume duties. Williams, regrettably, died at the Caribbean Heart Institute of the Georgetown Hospital earlier this year.
Chase-Green had told this newspaper that her intention was to work along with Mayor Hamilton Green to ensure that the duties given to her were executed successfully.
“Council has voted that I perform some of those duties; and in doing those duties, I’ll have to discuss with the Mayor the way forward, because the two have been working together, and I will have to work along with him to see what has to be done,” she had said.
“We want to work together to change the way in City Hall that persons think that nothing can be done; and I’m hoping that we can work with the new government in 2012,” Chase-Green had added.
She had said that while there may be a lot of political issues, her hope was that City Hall could work along with the new government to ensure that the City is brought back to what it once was.
“There are a lot of political issues, but I think we need to deal with others — like the welfare of employees, the salaries that are not being paid, and garbage collection. The mayor will deal with all his other political issues at another level; and if we can assist him, yes, we will,” she had offered.
