DIGICEL Guyana has donated two STIHL brush cutters to members of the East Bank Community Development Group (CDG) at Mocha Arcadia as part of the community’s enhancement project to rid the village of grass. Speaking on behalf of the Mocha/Arcadia Community Development Group in receiving the gifts on Saturday, Mr. Lloyd Roberts of the Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) of Region 4 (Mahaica/Demerara) said the donation was from a request made to Digicel this year, and the NDC was happy to receive the brush cutters, which would be used to weed school compounds, the parapets of streets, and to make Mocha/Arcadia a model village of cleanliness.
He said the project would be one of a difference: once the NDC has achieved its aim of enhancing the community by weeding the grass, it would re-invite Digicel to see the progress made.
He promised that the gift brush cutters would be used for the intended purpose, and that use would also be documented.
He stated that unemployed youth would also benefit from the brush cutters in that they would get to use them to do weeding jobs in the community.
Roberts expressed gratitude for the gifts on behalf of the community members of the Mocha/Arcadia Community Development Group.
Digicel’s Chief Technical Officer, Brian Sinclair said Digicel has had a good relationship with the community since it commissioned its cellular site in the village in 2006, and has been doing work in the community since; and its contribution, Saturday, was just a way of fostering relations, since the cellular site contributes 40% of the network coverage for sections of the East Bank Demerara corridor.
