Husband placed on peace bond for abusing wife

KISHORE Mangra of Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, appeared before Sparendaam Magistrate Alex Moore, on Monday, to answer to an abusive language charge, wherein it was alleged that, on March 1, he verbally abused his common-law wife Parvati Hishram at their home in Cummings Lodge. Mangra pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The virtual complainant told the court that this is not the first instance of verbal abuse. She also said she had made three previous reports to the police and nothing had been done to have Mangra arrested before.
Mangra claimed he had no idea of those reports, as he was never contacted by the police following his wife’s alleged reports.
The defendant was asked to sign a bond to keep the peace for a period of one year, or alternatively serve six months imprisonment. He agreed to sign the bond.
