Cargo vessel stuck on mudflat off Clonbrook

QUICK thinking by the captain of the Johanna K saved the crew and vessel on Monday night and prevented a major catastrophe as the vessel began to list and started to take in water in the Atlantic Ocean. The cargo vessel ran aground in the Atlantic ocean just off Clonbrook on the East Coast of Demerara, on Monday night, while transporting 800 tonnes of sugar from Rose Hall, Berbice, to the Demerara Sugar Terminal (DST) in Port Georgetown.
The Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) was informed of the incident, and through the Lighthouse, a call was made for all vessels in the vicinity to respond to the distress call from the vessel, Johanna K.
A sister vessel, yesterday morning, went to the aid of the cargo vessel stuck on a mud flat just about two miles off shore of Clonbrook, East Coast Demerara.
Once the vessel tows the Johanna K to the city, the consignment of sugar will be off-loaded before repairs to the vessel are effected.
