Body of GNSC guard who allegedly fell overboard retrieved at Den Amstel

THE bloated and decomposing body of Guyana National Shipping Corporation (GNSC) security guard, Walter Hamilton, 46, of ‘A’ Field, Sophia, Georgetown, washed ashore at Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara yesterday afternoon. The corpse was identified by the ATM card found in a pocket after villagers had alerted the police of the presence of the corpse.
Hamilton reportedly accidentally fell into the Demerara River while on duty at the GNSC Wharf at Lombard Street, Georgetown on Sunday evening; and a search conducted to locate him came up empty-handed.
Hamilton was last seen with two colleagues who were on duty at the time when he reported for duty at around 7pm on Sunday, company officials said.
GNSC officials declared that on Sunday evening a splashing sound was heard, and when the area where Hamilton was working had been checked, he was nowhere to be found, hence he was suspected to have fallen overboard.
